Marshall JCM800 2203 vs JCM800 2204 I've seen an insane amount of debates between these two heads. I personally own an original 1981 2203 and it changed my life and tone forever. .

No, they do NOT sound the same. An older 2204 (Vertical inputs built between 1976 & 1983) will sound much warmer and bigger due to it's circut. Sometime in 1984/85 Marshall added an effects loop to the 2204. Regardless of whether it's a 2204 or 2205, the effects loop will suck tone, avoid those if you can. I just spend some time cleaning up and repairing a friends 4010 combo (2204 head in a 1x12) and they're quite amazing amps. The late 70s JMP and early 80s JCMs were basically identical, the earlier JMP are dual input/non-master, but the later 70s amps with master and cascaded gain stages should get you the same basic tone of an early 80s JCM.

Built on I know on on the 2204 you can jump the channels to produce a certain kind of sound, but on the 2203, is that lead channel still sound like a jumped 2204? Jan 07, 2016 · Im on the prowl to buy a vintage JMP amplifier. Looking for closer AC/DC tone then my JCM 2000 can provide. Will also need to purchase a good attenuator and perhaps the Schaeffer Replica system. The JMP is the nicest looking Marshall head IMO. And they will only go up in value. You cant lose! In July 1969, Marshall replaced its gold plexiglass front and back panels on their amplifiers and replaced them with gold aluminum-brushed panels with black-screened lettering. May 15, 2009 · Here's the rub though, I still feel like I havn't found that perfect Marshall I'm looking for and I love all of the different flavors, which is why I am so curious about the 2205. I think when I satisfy my marshall addiction, which may mean 4 or 5 different ones at some point, I'll probably open up to another sound.

  • Still an incredible amp! I've been told that the 2205 (50 Watt Channel Switching) sounds better than the 2210. There are apparently different (beware I could be wrong about this or just using the wrong words) circuits in 2210 from the 2205, but the gain sounds somewhat different. I always thought the 2210 was a bit more metal.
