May 12, 2009 · The Siletz River drains the rainiest part of the Oregon Coast Range, traveling a tortuous path through steep forestlands to the Pacific Ocean. The Siletz isn’t a large or famous destination river, but it is a unique gem, and supports more species of anadromous fish than any other river in the entire state of Oregon. Turn east off Hwy 101 at Newport and follow signs to either South Beach (to fish south shore and jetty) or Yaquina Bay Road (to fish the north shore). Siletz River. Raising Fish in the Salmon River Hatchery. Fish raised at the Salmon River Hatchery come from a variety of sources. Steelhead, chinook salmon, and coho salmon all develop from eggs taken from wild broodstock that return to the hatchery to spawn. Brown trout raised here are transferred in as fingerlings from other DEC hatcheries.
